Do you know how to hire people? I don’t, but there is something I know that might be useful for entrepreneurs, who are willing to launch a startup. You must hire people with similar values to yours.
When you are starting, with no money, you might hire anyone who is willing to work for the amount you can pay. I understand that but have in mind you may have troubles in the early future. In the same way that it’s ok hiring an employee that is not the perfect person for the job, is ok firing him or her. It happens with me a couple of time while working at Silicon Valley; some people just don’t fit into your team.
How do you know if the person has the right skills and the correct values? This is hard, and you can read a lot online about it. I’m going to add some good references regarding this subject in the end. From my experience, there is one skill that every person in a starting team must have: Commitment.
The fundamental goal of a startup is to create value with fewer resources than regular companies would need. During the first periods, the work will be harder, because the pressure is high, and the money is short. So, you need people that will fight by your side, if needed, and finding those people will not be easy. My advice is: do a broader search; go online and find people all over the globe willing to jump into your project.
