In your opinion, what is the concept of a startup? It is an idea or business, which is scalable, based on technology? There are many books regarding this subject, and most of them talk about the concept of a startup. After working a few years in Silicon Valley, I want to share my understanding of it with you.
First, I don’t think a startup as a regular company or a group of people working together. The industry of your company does not matter either. Business people do business through her or his company, despite its size so a startup cannot be defined by its industry or size. Despite that, I have to say that it is harder to find startups with thousands of employees. And here it is why.
For me, working for a startup does not mean working for a particular type of company, it means you will work in a specific way. There are not many rules regarding that. The main idea of working in a startup is to do a lot with few resources. Is to be as fast as possible, being agile. In the end, you need to have this energy, plus a will to change the world. If you are not willing to change the planet, you will have just a small and smart company.
Startup is a working style, not a lifestyle. It means that you don’t need to have a video game in your office or a table tennis table. It also does not mean you will dress as you are going to the beach. Working style is a way to work; those examples are ways to live. Flexibility/freedom is a significant word in the startups' ecosystem, which is good, in my point of view. In the work environment, freedom is usually the opposite of responsibility; such as purpose vs profit, and continuity vs change. Be The Genius of the And combine both, achieve your goals and you will be in the right path to success. This is working at a startup.
You can dress, play, and live however you want, but if you're going to build a successful startup, you need to be good. Think about a startup as a way to work, set a high expectation and go for it.
